The Kaduna state environmental protection authority
says it arrested 335 goats for sanitation
offenses between January 2008 and April 2009.
The agency generated N162,000 from fines paid by
the arrested goats owners {500 per goat}.
According to the General Manager of the agency
the approach was taken in order to rid the state
of stray animals and their menace.
Farmers, residents and business owners complains
a lot about stray animals destroying their
gardens, farms, defecating in their compound etc.
Owners of pets have been reportedly urged by the
agency to constrain the movement of their animals
and curtail their nuisance to the environment but
all efforts proved abortive.
